Complicity Part II: Foreign Policy

As promised yesterday, this is the second of two strips in the Complicity series.

Foreign Policy describes the reality of the Administration. Want something done? Flatter Trump. Shower him with gifts—what you and I would call bribes—or both. Nothing is too transparent or over-the-top. Not even a peace prize from a sports association. The top bidder wins. It’s the new American way. And we should all be ashamed.

Assuming the Trump regime falls in the next few years, historians will write books about Trump’s enabling staff and Cabinet. Speaker Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Thune will get their chapters. But the real culprits are not the minions in the headlines. The ones to blame are the rank-and-file Republicans in Congress. Any four Republican Senators or six House members could have changed history by refusing to go along with the dismantling of democracy in the United States. Instead, they were complicit.

Sometimes it takes a couple of tries for me to come up with a Sketchier I’m willing to share. This is the first time I’ve done two versions on roughly the same topic: yesterday’s Principles; today’s Foreign Policy. Two paths to the same destination. One addresses fear; the other speculates that perhaps drugs are to blame (which would make the fishing boat war self-defeating). Either way, the coward caucus knows the difference between right and wrong. They just won’t do anything about it. Earning them a special place in history—and who knows, maybe in Hell.
