How Unlike Them

The hypocrisy of the Trump Administration knows no bounds—and certainly no ecclesiastical ones. Wrapping their policies in Christianity is only one of many examples, but led to How Unlike Them.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has long wrapped herself in the cloak of faith. In an interview with South Dakota Public Broadcasting, she said “… the values I hold according to biblical principles impact my decisions” and in 2022 she said on the Christian Broadcasting Network that she wants to be “obedient to whatever God has called me to do.” In talking about the NFL selecting Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl halftime show, she took the high ground saying, “They suck and we’ll win and God will bless us,” because apparently who performs at the Super Bowl is a topic of great concern to the folks upstairs.

Noem and her ilk invoke their religion to justify the cruelty they commit in separating children from their parents in the middle of the night, dragging people out of their beds into the streets to be zip tied, and, well, unfortunately, the list goes on. This places them in a long tradition of perverting Christian tenets in which the Inquisition was but a milestone. Not an approach I would choose to emulate, but hey, God didn’t call me to create these strips. It was my idea.
