Happy Father's Day

Who am I to say the world would be better off if this person or that person had never been born? That’s arrogant and arguably immoral. Fantasizing about someone never being born isn’t wrong, however, is it?

Given the dark humor of Happy Father’s Day I’m hoping that idle (and unkind) fantasies do not rise to the level of bad karma. Or at least it only generates a manageable, not-all-that-significant amount of bad karma.

Assuming that’s the case, I should confess that there were a few mass murderers who didn’t make the list due to space limitations. And while I was simply imagining the non-birth of generally bad people, I may have considered some other offspring that have not made the world better. You know, folks like Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Samuel Alito, Steve Bannon, Lindsey Graham (whose father’s name is Florence — go ahead, look it up), and the entire gang of grifters named Trump and Kushner. Fantasizing that the fathers of this scrum of scumbags had called in sick that night doesn’t harm anyone, right? I don’t really know.

But what I do know is that it’s the responsibility of those of us who are not undermining democracy, grifting, or causing needless death on an unthinkable scale, , to stand up to those that do. After all, it’s what our fathers would want us to do.
