The essay
This is a very niche strip. If you’re a fan of Stranger Things you get it. If you aren’t, it is without meaning. Alas.
To oversimplify and avoid spoilers, Stranger Things is a Netflix series set in a very authentic 1980s. It’s a horror story for people who don’t like horror stories. The Upside Down is the opposite of our world. Vecna is not a good guy. The first four episodes of the final season go up on November 26th. The next three on December 25th and the finale on New Year’s eve. It’s a terrific show and there’s still time to get caught up. I hope you will.
This was one of the first strips I created—back in July. I held off on posting it because I wanted: 1) to establish the look and feel of Sketchiers before tweaking with the model; 2) launch it closer to when Stranger Things airs; and 3) to have a Halloween-ish strip. Because you have to have a Halloween strip, right?
I make no apologies for comparing Stephen Miller to Vecna. For both of them, the cruelty is the point. My only hesitation in making the connection is that I think Miller looks more like Voldemort. If you squint, however ….
