The Constitution can’t defend itself. It needs us.
The essay
September 17th was Constitution Day. How did you celebrate? We at SketchierHQ participated in The Oath Project of the American Constitution Society. This meant joining with others in pledging to defend the Constitution. And by others we mean the likes of Ed Begley Jr., Jamie Lee Curtis, Robert De Niro, former US Senator Russ Feingold, Joan Jett, John Lithgow, former federal judge J. Michael Luttig, Barbara McQuade, Graham Nash, Edward James Olmos, Martin Sheen, Barbra Streisand, Laurence Tribe, and Noah Wyle, to name a few.
We can’t be sure, but the Sketchier crew may be the first cartoon characters to participate in the project. So there’s that.
We’re proud that the originator of The Oath Project, the one who brought it to the ACS, and his assistant on the project, are both Friends of Sketchier. We think what they did is important as now is the time to lift up the Constitution. We hope you’ll get involved. The ACS makes it simple to record your oath and spread the word. And as we’re all promoting democracy, why not take a few minutes and make sure your voter registration is in order? Then plan how you’ll cast your ballot by November 3rd.
After all, the Constitution is only as strong as we, the People, make it.
