The essay
Trump can see the blue wave that’s coming. And when one or more Congressional chambers go Democratic, he knows what investigations will follow. And that his grifting, political shenanigans, and flouting of the Constitution and federal laws won’t stand up to scrutiny. All of which means, he can’t lose the midterm elections.
The only way to win an election you’re bound to lose is to not hold a fair election. In his Thursday night speech, Trump deployed lies, half-truths, and innuendoes to paint a picture of elections in disarray that only he, and the SAVE Act, can fix. Well, he’s not getting the SAVE Act through the Senate. That means it’s up to him. And to his corrupt Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, Defense, and the FBI, aided by private militias, and a rogue, murderous government police force.
In normal times, Republicans in Congress would be terrified of the coming elections. Knowing what they know of Trump and what he’ll do to win, as What, Me Worry? points out, they might not need to be. All they have to be able to do is stomach a whole lot of shame.

P.S. For those under 60, and those over 60 who had a more refined sense of humor, “What, Me Worry?” was the catchphrase of MAD magazine’s mascot, Alfred E. Neuman. Unfortunately, today, we all have to worry — and vote — if we’re going to have a democracy after November 3rd.
